What Mr. Rich believes:
Being involved with a high school newspaper is the most valuable and coolest thing a student can do!

What Mr. Rich aims to impart upon The Spartan Shield journalists:
Most every high schooler has something important to say.
Ideas lead to words; words lead to action; action leads to change; change leads to growth.
America was founded upon journalistic freedom.
Journalists act as the "watchdogs" of our society.
Society members lead better lives if they are knowledgable and informed.
America is better when its citizens are informed and active participants.
Journalists are inherently biased, yet their being responsible to a set of ethical practices aims at removing these biases in the name of objectivity.
When the public can't trust journalists, the public....
Being a journalist is difficult because nothing of value is ever easy.
Given enough time, the truth will always reveal itself, yet it can regularly use a little help [from journalists].
